Seán Linehan

Gaffer

Seán Linehan started with LDG in 2005 as an ALD/Lighting Technician. He has worked throughout the field of lighting in Film, Television (studio and location), Live Performance, Event, Permanent Installation, Gallery Exhibits, and Photo Journalism.

For the last decade he has worked as a gaffer for LDG and now works with Sr Lighting Designer Mike Grabowski as the Gaffer of the LDG Entertainment Division. Their jobs take him around the country and world lighting the biggest events in sports, cooking competitions, and of course, reality TV.

My career with LDG spans roughly 20 years. I came up as an electrician, worked as an ALD, a programmer, and Gaffer. So it’s hard to pick a single project that stands out and a favorite. Olympic Late Night with Ryan Seacrest shot on the beach ar Copa Cabana, the NBA on TNT Western Conference Finals in San Francisco/Dallas, Something is Killing Me shot in the catacombs of Greenwood Cemetery, and of course Rockin’ News Years Eve! Are all fond memories.

Early on in my career I learned from some of the best Gaffers in the industry and ultimately they were the ones that inspired me to leave a more design oriented career path and lean more into the technical side. Today my collaborative work relationship with LD Mike Grabowski and our growth of the Entertainment Division keeps me learning and growing as a gaffer-ld

Something I wish more people (even people in the industry new about my position) is how extremely collaborative it is. It is a role that relies heavily on teamwork, mutual trust, and brainstorming. A successful gaffer has a team they trust and an LD who trusts them. Trying to strong arm your way into this job as a lone wolf gets you nothing.
